Apparently because people were mean to her. And the Freepers love the "strategery" of this because, you know, if she ever became president I'm sure America's enemies would treat her with kid gloves in order not to excite her tender sensibilities.

Here's her swan song in a nutshell (to mix metaphors):

Now that I've fully explained my decision and given all the reasons, there are no other reasons, we can get on with the fight for Alaska. Which I am now giving up an incredibly powerful office in.
